He was one of the first two deacons of the First Church in Coventry and a selectman and town clerk for 12 years.¹ He was born on 13 April 1667.¹ He married Thankful Strong, daughter of Jedediah Strong and Freedom Woodward, on 4 March 1691.¹ Deacon Thomas Root died on 13 November 1756 at Coventry, Tolland, Connecticut, USA, at age 89.¹

     Thankful Strong was born on 15 April 1672 at Northamption, Hampshire, Massachusetts, USA.¹ She was the daughter of Jedediah Strong and Freedom Woodward.¹ Thankful Strong married Deacon Thomas Root on 4 March 1691.¹ Thankful Strong died on 16 April 1742 at Coventry, Tolland, Connecticut, USA, at age 70.¹
