Shortly after settling there, he had a severe fight with a large and powerful Indian, who in a drunken state told him that he had already killed 99 white men and was agoing to make him the hundredth. Bissell, though a young man, ca. off conqueror in the fearful struggle he killed his foe instead of being killed himself.¹
