Esther Wilson1
F, b. between 1804 and 1805
- Relationship
- 2nd great-grandmother of Lura Jane Depue
Esther Wilson was born between 1804 and 1805 at North Carolina, USA.1 She was the daughter of Thomas Wilson and Isabell Shannon.2 Esther Wilson married John Trotter on 26 December 1827 at Monroe, Indiana, USA.3,1 Esther Wilson and John Trotter appeared on the census of 1 June 1850 at Utica Township, Winnebago, Wisconsin, USA.4 Esther Wilson There is a Thomas Wilson listed in the 1810 North Carolina Census of Guilford County, p. 982. With Thomas Wilson are listed three males and one female who were the right ages for the children that we know Thomas had by 1810. There are two other adults living in the household at the time. The ages range from 26 to 45. Since Thomas would be about 30 at the time of this census, it is possible that these adults were his parents or the siblings of Thomas or his wife, Isabell. That Thomas lived in Guilford County is probable.
His wife's name, Isabell Wilson, appears in the will of William Shannon of that county. Since Isabell and Thomas named a child Shannon, this document is probably the connection needed to prove Guilford County is the North Carolina home of the Wilson clan. Census and land records indicate there were Wilson families living near the Shannon family.
Thomas married twice, first to Isabell (probably in North Carolina). Isabell is named in the land transaction whereby Thomas sells his Hendricks County farm to his son, John. His second wife was Nancy Brown. This is documented by a marriage record in Hendricks County, Indiana. Nancy is named in Thomas's will.
The Wilson family came to Monroe County Indiana from North Carolina in approximately 1815. Their youngest son was born in Indiana in 1817. Thomas was granted a patent to land in Monroe county on August 23, 1824.
Thomas Wilson's will was filed in Hendricks County, Indiana and names his children: John, Emily (a clerical error, the clerk should have written Emsley), Ester Trotter, wife of John Trotter, Shannon, Anna Howell, wife of Thomas Howell, Jane Trotter, wife of Nelson Trotter, and Squire H. Wilson.
Listed in the 1840 census of Hendricks County, are Thomas, the father of the clan, John, John and Ester Trotter, Shannon, Thomas and Anna Howell, and Nelson and Jane Trotter. Squire Hamilton Wilson is not listed by the name Squire. Squire is probably a nickname. He is probably the Hamilton Wilson who is in Eel River Township, Hendricks County, Indiana in the 1850 U.S. Census.2
